Florida a top three option for 2018 five-star quarterback Lawrence

ATLANTA, Ga. | On Sunday Cartersville (Ga.) 2018 quarterback Trevor Lawrence arrived at the Rivals Underclassman Challenge looking to prove that he is worthy of his five-star ranking.

During the event Lawrence completed throw after throw and by the end of the day was named the Quarterback MVP of the camp.

“You know I don’t think it was the best day I’ve had because it’s tough at camps sometimes because you don't really know the receivers and don’t have the connection,” stated Lawrence. “I think I did okay with the short passes because my accuracy is my strong point. I think I could use work on the deep ball.”

A few months back Lawrence, the top signal caller in his class, stopped by the University of Florida to visit for a few days. During that visit Lawrence was able to see both the campus and the Gators offense in action during their spring football game.

“I really liked it and thought it was one of the nicest campuses that I have ever been to,” said Lawrence. “I really like the coaches and got to see the spring game and their offense. They run that pro-style offense and I think that it fits me well. I really like Coach [Doug] Nussmeier too.”

In Jake Allen, Florida already has their quarterback already locked up for this recruiting cycle. That has afforded the Gators an opportunity to look ahead to the Class of 2018.

Their top target appears to be Lawrence.

At this time the Gators seem to be in a good spot as they are considered to be strongly in the mix along with Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee.

“They say they need a guy for my class and they are really trying to recruit me hard,” explained Lawrence. “They are probably in my top three right now, if I had one. I feel like if I go anywhere I think I can play early, but I can see it for myself at Florida. I wouldn’t say I have a concrete leader board, but Florida is one of my favorites. Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee are others schools I like.”

Going forward the 6-foot-5, 200-pounder plans to visit Clemson this coming Thursday, and also mentioned a possible return visit to Gainesville sometime in July. Shortly after summer visits Lawrence could possibly end his recruitment and commit to a school early.

“Probably sometime near the end of the summer,” said Lawrence of a timeline. “I like a pro-style offense but I can also do a spread offense too. I just want a nice campus and a place I feel at home and is a safe campus.”
