After a disappointing result Sunday night, No. 1 seed Florida is just one loss away from elimination in the College World Series.

Despite logging seven hits, Florida wasn’t able to get much going offensively Sunday night in Omaha in a 2-1 loss to Coastal Carolina. The Gators will now need to win the next four straight if they have hopes of reaching the CWS title, with an elimination game with Texas Tech in the loser’s bracket set for 5 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN2.

Ultimately, Chanticleers pitcher Andrew Beckwith (9.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO) outperformed Gators pitcher Logan Shore (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO). The loss was Shore’s first of the season and snapped a streak of 17 winning decisions for Shores.

Coastal Carolina got on the board first in the third inning. After Anthony Marks doubled and Connor Owings walked, Zach Remillard doubled down the right field line to score Marks for the 1-0 advantage. The umpires originally ruled it foul, but replayed overturned the call.

In the fifth inning, UF tied it up at 1-1 after Deacon Liput doubled, Nelson Maldonado moved Liput to third and then pinch-hitter Jeremy Vasquez singled to center to score Liput. However, the Chanticleers responded in the sixth with another run off of a Remillard triple to left center following an Owings walk.

Although Florida did not surrender a run after that point with Kirby Snead, Dane Dunning, A.J. Puk and Shaun Anderson all seeing action to close out the game, the Gators ultimately had no answers on offense against Beckwith and Coastal Carolina.

With this loss, Florida baseball head coach Kevin O’Sullivan is now 6-9 in five CWS appearances since he took the helm in Gainesville. The Gators are 2-3 under O’Sullivan in CWS opening games.
