Pre-Spring Five to Follow: Defensive ends

The high school spring evaluation period is already underway, running from April 15th until May 31st. Florida will wait and go out on the road next week (Monday 25th). So, this week Inside the Gators will run down five prospects to follow at each position this spring. They aren't the top five prospects or targets at each position, but rather five prospects who bear watching.

What Was Said: “Auburn would be one of my top five. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Florida State.”

Competition: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia

The Skinny: Georgia and Auburn seem to be the schools in the best position currently, as they have both been able to get him on campus. Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph made quite a few stops by his high school before this last Signing Day. The Gators will likely visit him again this spring while continuing their efforts to get the three-star on campus for a visit

What Was Said: “I love what coach Mac is doing with the program,” Carter said of Florida. “I think they have it going in the right direction, and that piques my interest.”

Competition: Clemson

The Skinny: Carter isn't naming any sort of solid leader-board at this time, but the Gators are absolutely a major player here. Carter has made the short trip up I75 many times to visit Gainesville already and is very close with defensive line coach Chris Rumph. Carter says he doesn’t plan on making a commitment until after taking official visits in the fall.

What Was Said: “I’ll probably commit after take all my official visits. I’m looking for support and a place where I can flourish, whether it is with a bunch of studs or not.”

Competition: Georgia, Miami, Tennessee and others

The Skinny: Since earning MVP honors at the Miami Nike Camp last month, Garvin has started to see heavy interest from quite a few high profile programs. He recently visited Florida to take in one of the Gators spring practices. He currently does not have an offer from the Gators, but could possibly be a name added to the board this spring after the Gators check him out during the evaluation period. Garvin would take an offer from the Gators seriously.

What Was Said: “They just tell me they want me and it’s really obvious to tell they want me. The message is basically, 'We want you at Florida.'”

Competition: Alabama and Florida State

The Skinny: Florida played host this five-star back in March for him to observe one of Florida’s spring practices. Parks grew up a fan of the Gators and has made the short trip to Gainesville quite a few times over the last year. This spring the Gators will be sure to show Parks some love as multiple colleges will without a doubt stop by his high school to check in on this top 20 prospect.

What Was Said: “I was a Florida fan growing up," Sterling said. "When I watched the Florida game, I watched the atmosphere, and it looked fun in Gainesville. I used to love Tim Tebow. He was my favorite college player ever. I was watching them back when Chris Leak was there.”

Competition: Alabama commit and Georgia

The Skinny: Despite his early commitment to Alabama, Sterling is still in contact with other schools. Georgia seems to be in the best position to pull off a flip as of this moment, but Sterling admits he grew up a fan of Florida. If the Gators can get him on campus perhaps they can become a contender. It will be telling to see how much contact they make with him this spring.
